Mobile ON-Line Transactions

The mobile phone, laptop and netbook that we have known for so long is now transitioning very quickly into a way of life. These devices today represent the default internet access tool. On-line trading and financial transactions are gaining acceptance and in many cases the mobile phone in particular is fast becoming the only tool of choice.

With this extremely rapid pace of change and dependency comes increased risk as the provision of better security solutions usually lags behind such market acceptance.

Historically we already know the security risks we take when using the Internet and we can safely predict the security risks faced as this sector grows, in particular that of the mobile phone transaction world. Rather than wait for the problem to get bigger you can adopt new security measures, using available biometric systems, to greatly reduce the chance of becoming an identity theft or fraud statistic. MAVIS is one such biometric system.

When using the Internet, how often do we ask ourselves?

Am I fully protected?
What’s stopping someone else getting hold of and using my personal information?
Is my confidential information fully protected?

The short answers are “very little”, “nothing” and “no”.

MAVIS does provide a solution. As the application runs on the mobile device itself, it firstly protects all of the following against authorised access and use: the device; information stored in memory, on hardrive or on SD; any pre loaded OS application and files.

Devices can also have either one or multiple registered users.

Secondly, by ensuring that only registered users have access to the device, data and/or applications MAVIS is paving the way for a higher level of security for On Line transactions in that a second “live” verification and authorisation can take place when the system eventually becomes integrated with existing server based on line systems, like EBay, PayPal, On Line Banking, Credit Card purchases.

MAVIS is a serious alternative to combating on line and mobile based fraud and identity theft. It has the ability to protect your device, network, confidential information, data and transactions and to stop someone else pretending to be you.

ASTL are already working with some major corporations to implement the first MAVIS server trials, however, as an individual, head of department or corporation you can take the first initial step now… protect your Mobile Phone, PDA, Netbook or Laptop.
